DJ and producer Steve Aoki has teamed up with the Backstreet Boys for an exciting collaboration titled ‘Let It Be Me’.
The breezy pop tune first came about after Steve and BSB’s Nick Carter spent some time talking about doing music together. Steve later invited Nick to one of shows, where the BSB singer hopped on stage to perform ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’. Two years later and an original collaboration between the DJ and boyband has finally arrived.
‘Let It Be Me’ opens with a guitar and stripped-down vocals before Steve’s trademark electro-pop sound kicks in. “If you are going to hurt someone then let it be me”, the boyband sing during the chorus, as they plead for a potential partner to choose them, despite the possibility of being left brokenhearted.
Speaking about the track, Steve said in a press release: “Being able to work with these guys was so organic and effortless. Collaborating with a group that I’ve been listening to since I was a kid was such a memorable moment for me. This song has a beautiful message and relates to a lot of different people overcoming challenges when you love someone and love always win?s? in the end. I’m really proud of this one and know it will touch a lot of people.”
Backstreet Boys added: “Our collaboration with Steve came about in a very organic way. We had the opportunity to spend some time with Steve at his house really getting to know each other, and the song developed naturally from there. The message behind it is one we think everyone can relate to. It’s about working through any challenges that life brings to be with the person you love. And the importance of that message is something we really tried to show with the music video by having real couples tell their stories.”
The poignant accompanying music video was unveiled today and really hits home the message of the song. The visual focuses on the real-life stories of people who have overcome adversity and defied the odds against an arduous love. These scenes are intertwined with shots of Steve and the Backstreet Boys, creating a powerful and memorable music video.
